Best Brunch in Charlottesville: Bluegrass Grill & Bakery

Yeah I know it is a pretty bold statement but I endorse it all by myself. Any time someone asks for breakfast or brunch suggestions I always say The Bluegrass Grill & Bakery. I first fell in love with this place before I went vegan because of their signature "The Dirty Frenchman" (french toast with melted brie, honey, and lavender on top...the guiltiest of pleasures for me back then). But I am STILL in love with this place because of their vegan options.

It was a pretty big deal like a year ago when they announced that they were adding vegan pancakes to the menu.

These pancakes a lemon blueberry flavored, topped with fresh cut strawberries and coconut whipped cream.

This picture is deceiving because that it a really big plate and I got two fluffy pancakes that I struggled to finished. I'm not weak though so with some sips of that cinnamon apple tea I cleaned my plate like a big girl.

The Tofu Hash is also massive and a bit daunting to finish. Obviously the serving sizes here aren't skimp. They scrambled Twin Oaks Tofu with potatoes, onions, tomatoes, peppers, spinach and mushrooms. I went ahead and added the soy chorizo too so I could overdose on protein for the day. Although it was already packed with flavor, I couldn't help but reach for the table hot sauce. The biscuits there aren't vegan but they were happy to give me a side of fruit.

Bluegrass is a classic American diner type of restaurant, which I love. Most diners you can only get oatmeal or toast with jam as the vegan option. But thankfully they cared enough to give the people some A1 options. If you come to Charlottesville for a weekend and don't go to Bluegrass, you missed out.

So go spoil yourself and someone special with Bluegrass soon!

***If you go be mindful that they are super busy so expect a wait and that they only take cash or checks!
